Matthew and Jael “resided in the ancestral homestead, Main St., below Pear Tree Hill. He was known as ‘Lieutenant,’ and later as ‘Captain.’ Constable 1693, and selectman in 1710.”48

7280. Dea. David Jacob. Born on 20 Jun 1664 in Hingham, MA.33 David died in Scituate, MA, on 10 Feb 1748; he was 83.116 Buried in First Parish Cemetery, Scituate.

From Deane’s History of Scituate:6
    “David came to Scituate 1688, when he purchased the lands of George Russell, (his uncle), on the southeast of Stockbridge's mill, the ancient Stedman place. His house stood near where stands the house of Mr Samuel Hatch, his descendant. That Russell house was burnt 1712, and another erected near the same place, which has been succeeded since by the spacious mansion of Mr Hatch. Dea. David Jacob was an active and useful man, always employed in publick business, and often also as town schoolmaster, there being but one school at that time.”

David ws the first master of the only public school in Scituate until 1712. In 1701 ‘The Town agreed with Dea. David Jocob to keep a reading, writin and grammar school for one year, in consideration of the sum of £20; also agreed with the same person to build a school house for £20.’ This schoolhouse stood between Jacob’s house and the Stockbridge mill.7

David Jacob was a Deacon of the First Church during the time of the controversy over building a new meeting house elsewhere thanupon the site of the earliest one on Meeting House Lane. The second house on ‘the gor of land’ near Balch’s (now (1936) the Town Common at Scituate Centre) was erected before his death.7

On 20 Dec 1689 when David was 25, he first married Sarah Cushing (3948) , daughter of Col. John Cushing Esq. (1092) (ca 1627-31 Mar 1708) & Sarah Hawke (1388) (ca 1641-9 Mar 1678/9), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 26 Aug 1671 in Scituate, MA.2 At the age of <1, Sarah was baptized on 27 Aug 1671.48 Sarah died in Scituate, MA, on 24 Sep 1723; she was 52. Buried in First Parish Cemetery, Scituate.

John Cushing, Sarah’s father, also recorded the marriage in his account book: “David & Sarah maried 20 december 1689”.63

According to Cushing48, Sarah died 8 Aug 1701.

Mary first married Benjamin Goold in 1698, second David Jacob.

7281. Elizabeth Jacob. Born on 11 Apr 1666 in Hingham, MA.33 At the age of <1, Elizabeth was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 8 Jul 1666.116 Elizabeth died between 28 Oct 1710 and 16 Jan 1711/2 in Scituate, MA.

On 6 Jun 1687 when Elizabeth was 21, she married Lieut. Elisha Turner (7865) , son of John Turner Sr. (2194) (ca 1621-aft 20 May 1697) & Mary Brewster (6533) (16 Apr 1627-aft 23 Mar 1698), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 8 Mar 1656/7 in Scituate, MA.116,3 At the age of <1, Elisha was baptized on 12 Apr 1657.135 Elisha died in Scituate, MA, on 24 Apr 1700; he was 43.

In Mar 1687/8 Elisha was fined 1 shilling and costs for marrying without having his intentions published according to law. He pleaded ignorance of the law.

On 27 Dec 1694 when Deborah was 17, she first married Matthew Cushing (3944) , son of Col. John Cushing Esq. (1092) (ca 1627-31 Mar 1708) & Sarah Hawke (1388) (ca 1641-9 Mar 1678/9), in Hingham, MA.33 Born on 16 Feb 1665 in Scituate, MA.48 At the age of <1, Matthew was baptized on 14 May 1665.39 Matthew died on 18 May 1715; he was 50.33 Occupation: wheelwright.39

Matthew was adopted by or at least lived with his uncle Matthew Cushing at Hingham, and at his uncle’s death inherited the homestead &c., and succeeded to his occupation of wheelwright. Selectman five years from 1703 through 1714.48

Matthew inherited a large portion of the estate of his uncle Matthew with whom he was brought up. He resided at Hingham Center.33

7287. Capt. John Jacob. Born on 31 Jul 1679 in Hingham, MA.33 John died aft 1749.

John and Sarah resided in the second precinct, Hingham. He was constable 1709, selectman 1742, 1743, and 1745, representative 1726-1733, and deacon of the church. In addition to his public duties, he carried on a farm of about 200 acres, which included 130 of pasturage, 50 of mowing, etx. In 1749 he kept 10 cows, 6 oxen, 2 hourses, 38 sheep; and harvested 176 bushels of corn. At that time he paid a larger tax than any other resident of the town. He left no issue.33

On 19 Feb 1710/1 when John was 31, he married Sarah Cushing (12017) , daughter of Daniel Cushing (3937) (23 Jul 1648-5 May 1716) & Elizabeth Thaxter (13744) (19 Feb 1660/1-6 Apr 1727), in Hingham, MA.33 Born ca 1690 in Hingham, MA. Sarah was baptized in Hingham, MA, on 27 Jul 1690.33

They had no children.

7288. Lydia Jacob. Born on 18 Apr 1681 in Hingham, MA.33 Lydia died in Hull, MA, on 28 Jan 1741/2; she was 59.194

On 17 Jan 1698/9 when Lydia was 17, she married Capt. John Goold, son of Robert Goold (ca 1645-1718/9) & Mehitable Bosworth (ca 1647-bef 1690), in Hingham, MA.33 Born ca 1672 in Hull, MA. John died on 16 Nov 1762 in Hull, MA.194 Buried in Hull Cemetery. Occupation: cordwainer.
