    Joseph was captain of our [Rowley’s] military company, town clerk and representative many years. He lived several eyars in Groton, as he, with wife Sarah, son Benoni and wife Ann, was dismissed from our church to Groton 4 Dec., 1715 (see Essex Deeds, 39:140), he returned, and died 16 Dec., 1730, aged 85 years (gravestone).

On 13 May 1669 Joseph first married Sarah Swan, daughter of Richard Swan (ca Dec 1607-May 1678) & Ann [Swan] (-Apr 1658), in Rowley, MA.88 Born in 1646 in Rowley, MA.88 Sarah died on 27 Feb 1718/9 in Groton, MA.96

7075. Sergt. John Boynton. Born on 17 Sep 1647 in Rowley, MA.88 John died bef Oct 1727 in Bradford, MA. Occupation: Husbandman and weaver.

From Blodgett’s Early Settlers of Rowley:88
    John sold to Andrew Stickney 23 Oct., 1678, the homestead that was his father’s, and moved to Bradford where he died 22 Dec. 1719. His will, made “under the infirmaties of old age” 30 Oct., 1719 proved 1 FEbl, 1719-20, mentions: wife Mary and a marriage contract; eldest son Ichabod, daughter Hannah Barnes, son Zachariah and grandchildren, oldest son of Ichabod (unnamed) and Joseph Barnes, son of Hannaa. (Essex Probate, 13:45, and on file). His widow Mary married in Haverhill 30 Oct., 1727, Joshua Boynton [son of William].

On 8 Mar 1675 when John was 27, he first married Hannah Keyes, daughter of Solomon Keyes (ca 1631-) & Frances Grant (21 Jun 1633/4-ca 1708), in Rowley, MA.88 Born on 12 Sep 1654 in Newbury, MA.88 Hannah died in Bradford, MA, on 11 Mar 1717; she was 62.96

    Caleb’s will, dated 17 May 1706, proved 1 Nov., 1708, mentions: wife (unnamed), sons Jeremiah and Ebenezer, daughters Margaret Chaplin and Ruth Boynton (Essex Probate, 10:24, and on file).

On 26 May 1674 Caleb married Hannah Harriman, daughter of Leonard Harriman (ca 1622-26 May 1691) & Margaret [Harriman] (-Oct 1676), in Rowley, MA.88 Born on 22 May 1655 in Rowley, MA.88 Hannah died in Rowley, MA, on 19 Feb 1725/6; she was 69.88

On 14 Dec 1670 when Mercy was 19, she first married Josiah Clark, son of Sergt. Thomas Clark (ca 1613-9 Jan 1689/90) & Sarah [Clark], in Rowley, MA.88 Born ca 1646 in Ipswich, MA. Josiah died on 27 Sep 1691 in Ipswich, MA.

Joseph first married Sarah Whipple, second widow Rachel Todd, and third Mercy (Boynton) Clark, widow of Josiah Clark.

On 30 Nov 1712 when Mercy was 60, she third married Sergt. John Hovey, son of Daniel Hovey (ca 1618-24 Apr 1692) & Abigail Andrews (ca 1623-24 Jun 1665), in Ipswich, MA. Born ca 1644 in Ipswich, MA. John died on 29 Mar 1717/8 in Topsfield, MA.

John first married Dorcas Ivory, second Mercy (Boynton) (Clark) Goodhue, widow of Josiah Clark and Joseph Goodhue.

7078. Hannah Boynton. Born on 26 Mar 1654 in Rowley, MA.88 Hannah died in Reading, MA, on 5 Oct 1693; she was 39.84

Hannah first married Nathaniel Warner, second John Batchelder as his second wife.

On 29 Nov 1673 when Hannah was 19, she first married Nathaniel Warner, son of Daniel Warner (-9 Sep 1688) & Elizabeth Denne (-1 Nov 1659), in Ipswich, MA. Born ca 1646 in Ipswich, MA. Nathaniel died on 29 Apr 1684 in Ipswich, MA.

John resided in Reading. He was a soldier in King Philip’s War. He was selectman from 1676 to 1702, and Town Clerk from 1694 to 1697.

    Samuel’s age is shown by affidavits in the county clerk’s office. In 1717 he sold his homestead to Samuel Todd (Essex Deeds, 375), and was dismissed 19 Nov., 1719 from our church [Rowley’s] to Groton (Chh. R.).

On 17 Feb 1686 Samuel married Hannah Switcher in Rowley, MA.88 Born ca 1665. Hannah died on 13 Mar 1717/8 in Rowley, MA.88
