24389. James Cushing. Born on 9 Jan 1739/40 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of 3, James was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 6 Nov 1743.193 James died in Scituate, MA, on 5 May 1812; he was 72.116

James and Sarah resided at Cushing Hill, Scituate. He was a soldier in the Revolution and served all through the War. In a descriptive list of men he is mentioned as 5’9” in stature with a dark complexion.48

On 8 Dec 1763 when James was 23, he married Sarah Tower (34602) , daughter of Daniel Tower (27311) (23 Jun 1720-) & Bethia Nichols (12 May 1724-), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 30 May 1743 in Hingham, MA.48

    i. Bethiah, b. 1 Dec 1764;
    ii. Abigail, b. 8 Nov 1766; and
    iii. Daniel, b. 17 Aug 1769.116

24390. Benjamin Cushing. Born on 15 Dec 1741 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of 1, Benjamin was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 6 Nov 1743.193 Benjamin died in Scituate, MA, on 12 Jun 1808; he was 66.48

24391. Lydia Cushing. Born on 3 Dec 1743 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of 12, Lydia was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 29 Feb 1756. Lydia died in Scituate, MA, on 3 Sep 1838; she was 94.

George and Lydia were second cousins as their paternal grandfathers were brothers.

On 9 Jun 1771 when Lydia was 27, she married George Cushing (24461) , son of Dea. Joseph Cushing (12111) (21 Nov 1711-2 Jan 1767) & Lydia King (14422) (26 Dec 1716-), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 5 Jul 1736 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of <1, George was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 11 Jul 1736.193 George died in Scituate, MA, on 4 Sep 1814; he was 78.116

Geroge Cushing was the first of the ‘four Georges,’ all of whom lived on the property near Henchman’s Corner, to which his father had added by purchase from heirs of Edward Prouty, upland and swamp land on the road to Mount Blue.7

24392. Samuel Cushing. Born on 3 Sep 1745 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of <1, Samuel was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 24 Nov 1745.193 Samuel died in 1765 in Penobscot River, ME.48

Samuel drowned while boating with his brother Benjamin on the Penobscot River. They were conveying wood from the shore to a coasting vessel. “Benjamin recovered the body of his brother and set sail immediately, and under those solemn and trying circumstances, alone navigated the vessel safely back to Scituate.”108

24393. Lucy Cushing. Born on 30 Dec 1747 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of <1, Lucy was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 27 Nov 1748.193 Lucy died bef 1755.48 in infancy.

24394. Sarah Cushing. Born on 14 Apr 1750 in Scituate, MA.116 At the age of <1, Sarah was baptized in the Second Church of Scituate, on 4 Nov 1750.193 Sarah died in Hull, MA, on 27 May 1828; she was 78.48 unmarried.

Sarah lived with Capt. Souther, her uncle, and inherited his estate at Hull, where she died a maiden lady.108

Mary married a Mr Lothrop.

24396. Lucy Cushing. Born on 11 May 1755 in Scituate, MA.116 Lucy died in Mason, ME.108

Lucy, of Hanover.

On 1 Aug 1782 when Lucy was 27, she married Joseph Robbins (29699) , son of Nathaniel Robbins (ca 1720-17 Dec 1774) & Hannah Witherell (18444) (19 Jul 1720-7 Jan 1807), in Pembroke, MA.125 Born ca 1755 in Scituate, MA.

Joseph, of Mason, ME,108 or of Hebron, ME.6

24397. Rachel Cushing. Born on 15 Jun 1757 in Scituate, MA.116 Rachel died in Lyme, NH, on 5 Sep 1835; she was 78.108

On 13 Feb 1780 when Rachel was 22, she married Jacob Turner (27372) , son of Israel Turner (15633) (17 Feb 1707-) & Deborah Lincoln (27334) (29 Feb 1716-), in Scituate, MA.116 Born on 26 Nov 1749 in Scituate, MA.116 Jacob died in Lyme, NH, on 22 Jan 1804; he was 54.48

24398. Content Cushing. Born on 22 Mar 1761 in Scituate, MA.116 Content died in Oct 1825.48

In 1810 Content married Thomas Knox.48 Occupation: lighthouse keeper.
